Hi everybody,

I discovered fly fishing last year and the least I must say is that I am hooked !!! I just concentrate on this kind of fishing here in Thailand, and I would like to meet, share experience, tips with people with the same interest as me.

For a good start fishing in Thailand, the service of a pro guide is definitely a plus, as he can show you the basis of the sport and the particularities of the fishes in Thailand. But if you are living here, it is really difficult to pay 5 to 10 000 Bahts each time you want to go fishing, so when you have guys on the web that share GPS coordinates of fishing venues, it is really appreciated. Some guys like to upgrade their car by themselves, some like to go in a nice shop, same apply to fishing.

Thailand is really full of fishing venues, ranging from 70 bahts to 7 000 Bahts a rod / day !!! But all have something to give.

You can fish with a fly rod a lot of predators, the most famous are the giant snakehead, the barramundi and the arapaima ....

But basically you can target nearly all the species, if you have the proper flies and most important, the proper technique ...

That is why I would love to share my little knowledge with others, and have their input in return. For example, pictures of flies they use for which species, what kind of retrieve, floating or sinking lines, what kind of knots, fly tying tips ....

Another thing that really intrigue me if how to catch those vegetarian fish on a fly, like the Mekong Catfish, the Siamese Carp ...

I hope to read from you soon.

Hi BrutaleZEN,

Welcome to the forum!!

I would suspect that his topic over time will become one of the most popular - there is a large and rapidly growing interest in fly fishing Thailand nowadays.

No need to even mention the guided vs non-guided fishing, JFH and his team are perfectly comfortable with the fact that we'll be talking about things that may be regarded as giving away their "secrets". For the sport fishing industry in Thailand to grow and bring its standards inline with the rest of the World then we all need to be involved, pleasure fisherman, serious anglers and the guiding industry. The reason we chose to work with Fishing Adventures Thailand is because they get this fact and realise that you can't hide from the internet - you need to be a part of it!

We are at heart a GPS location website - if you have any co-rordinates of great fishing spots post them here!! Or in the Where To Fish forum, either is fine....

Personally I have never fly fished - however, running this forum I think i'd better do something about that in the coming months... :licklips:

Cheers,

Tom.

Hi Tom,

I really think fly fishing in Thailand deserve a try ... I have been so far in a few places like Pilot 111, Boon Mar, Bang Kwarng, IT Monsters Lake, Gillhams Fishing Resort in Krabi ... But the more places I will go, the more my experience of fishing will grow.

As I found the GPS coordinates from a very good website, I attached the link so people can go and have a look. It is

I really hope people will start to post on this forum soon so we can share our knowledge.

A small question : is anybody went to Greenfield Valley Fishing Resort in Hua-Hin ? Any good feedback ?

Have a good week end.

Hi BrutaleZen,

It was a while ago that you made this post but if you are still chasing them try a bread fly thrown in the middle of a bread ball on the Catfish and Carp. You can just use a piece of white rabbit fur.

I hope you have migrated away from the Bangkok pay ponds and into real fishing - the literally 10,000's of dams and rivers of Thailand can offer extraordinary good fishing.

Hi Victor,

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely try that. I am still fly fishing, it is addictive. What about you ? Are you a guide or a private fishernan ? And if not too much to ask, where are you living ? If in Bangkok, maybe we can go fishing together one day ?

Have a good day.
