Well stocked fishing lakes with Jalamet, Barramundi, Mekong Catfish, Striped Catfish, Tilapia, Snakehead, Carp and a few other species.

There's a decent bar on site and food is served all day until around 8pm (or it was the last time we asked - this may be different now) - they open around 10am and close around 10pm. Toilets are clean and overall the lake is well kept.

Fishing costs 300 baht per day with no discount if you bring your own tackle, this price includes rod hire if needed and one bag of bread bait. Most of the fish below around 2-3kg can be taken home or eaten there when caught - the fish from the front (smaller) lake seem to be a bit tastier as this lake is spring fed although maybe that was just my taste buds!!

The focus here is very much on Barramundi - the name of the fishing park says it all. The back lake has loads of Jalamet in there which is great if you are there to target them, but a real pain in the ass if you are not. Fishing with bread will normally get around this as the Jalamet don't seem to go for bread here - fishing the side of the back lake with salas will also help you stay away from them as they seem to shoal up on the other side of the lake.

The Pattaya Barra is an enjoyable, clean and pleasant place to fish. The staff are cool and the beer is ice cold - all in all it's a very good experience with most types of freshwater fishing on offer.

Update on the Pattaya Barra Fishing Park:-

In the rainy season last year there was one day of very intense flooding that saw most of Pattaya under water - the Pattaya Barra was one of the many businesses hit hard by this flood.

The big lake on the back of the property was completely overwhelmed and needed a fair bit of work to get it back to fishable condition - it needed to be fully drained and most of the fish were moved over to the front lake.

During this process some cracking fish were discovered and the front lake now contains around 20 Mekong Catfish up to around 50kg as well as all the Jalamet. This means that for now most of what you catch on the front lake will be Jalalmet, but the spin off from this is that you can avoid them by fishing on the back lake.

The back lake has been heavily restocked with Barramundi that are growing fast and will soon be a great place to spin and fly fish for this species.

I think the idea is to put some of the mekongs back in the larger lake to balance things up a bit as they get caught from the front lake - I hooked one last week and the bugger broke my rod after a 45 minute fight... :annoyed:

It's probably also worth mentioning that the previous manager Bob The Aussie no longer works there, he has moved on to other things.

The Pattaya Barra is still, in my opinion, the nicest fishing park in Pattaya and the back lake has the potential to be a great fishing pond as the fish in it mature.

Tom.
